You can actually see the Mediterranean  sea from the library.

What I love about Alexandria is the little beaches that scattered around the corniche where you can dip your feet to the warm water of the Mediterranean. And the breeze from the sea is a nice change from the dusty air of Cairo.

Yours truly in Ramses station, Cairo waiting for the train to Alexandria. One way ticket first class train costs 35 LE for a comfy 2 hours ride.

One thang that took me a while to realize was that the length of the trip (in terms of time) depends on what time you leave. Sometimes it takes two hours, sometimes up to four. Watch your ass on that one. And I also found 2nd class to be great, though the cost differences are minimal when thinking in dollars.

I went to Alex on first class (34LE) and returned on 2nd class (25LE); 9 LE difference (less than 2 bucks).

2nd class is nice but 1st is much more comfortable and nice for a 9 LE extra. The train is actually much nicer than the usual train I took in Italy for my daily commute.

You made me smile ... I always loved Alex much more then Cairo. Being near the ocean always makes me feel refreshed, and the library ... ahhh heaven.
